Cooper Standard is a global automotive supplier based in Novi, Michigan, and has been operating one of its Fluid Division plants in Saltillo since 1998 when it started operations with 40 employees in a 30,000 square-foot facility.

The company is a premier provider of solutions in the fuel, brake and vapor emissions, thermal management and anti-vibration segments of the industry. It has 70 plants and 16,000 employees worldwide. Its work force in Saltillo exceeds 10 times its original size and the company occupies two industrial facilities totaling 120,000 square-feet.

It builds vapor and fuel lines for automotive platforms for companies including General Motors Ford and Chrysler and others as a tier two supplier. The company prepares fuel lines from plastic, air conditioning lines from aluminum, and brake lines and air bags tube from metal tubes.

The Coahuila plant sends 90 percent of its production outside of Mexico and sends the other 10 percent to automotive companies in Mexico.

The plant produces brake single lines, brake and fuel bundles, TOC lines, plastic fuel assemblies, air suspension lines, vacuum lines and plastic quick connectors for Ford, Daimler Chrysler, GM ; Inergy Kautex, ABC, Sanoh, Spectra and Delphi.

The Cooper Standard’s Fluid Division plant in Saltillo Coahuila is one of two in Mexico. Another, started in 1993, operates from the Offshore Group facility in Empalme, Sonora. That facility has grown from three dozen employees to 450 with global sales of $70 million

Cooper Standard managers are proud of a lean, efficient staff with little turnover and a score of employees who have been with the company since it started operations.

Some 80 percent of employees are considered direct-labor, 10 percent indirect and 10 percent salaried. The company has two shifts, five days a week.

Cooper Standard is certified on TS-16949 (Version 2009) and ISO-14001. It works with the philosophies and applied.
