Manufacturing in Guadalajara enables companies to produce for easy export, as well as to tap into the vast sales opportunities that are increasingly evidencing themselves in the burgeoning market of Mexico’s heavily populated interior.

In addition to being home to well known EMS manufacturers such as Sanmina-SCI, Jabil Circuits, Flextronics, and Benchmark Electronics manufacturing in Guadalajara are other well known firms such as General Electric, IBM, Intel, Freescale, Hitachi, Hewlett Packard and  Siemens.  Because of the concentration of manufacturers that represent the core of the Mexico electronics industry in and around Guadalajara, the area has come to be known as “Mexico’s Silicon Valley”.

Although the Mexico electronics industry is well rooted and has a dominant presence in Guadalajara, the city and its environs are also home to an expanding biotech, or “life sciences,” industry.   Guadalajara is one of Mexico’s leading locations for clinical research, and healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturing.  The city is also home to the Biocluster del Occidente, or the Biocluster of the West.   This non-profit organization was founded in 2005 to enhance the competitiveness of the region’s existing Mexican biomed and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Manufacturing in Guadalajara also includes a noteworthy presence of the city’s more traditional industries such as a thriving textiles and footwear sector.   Much of the production of these items is dedicated to supplying the needs of a rapidly growing Mexican population.
