Manufacturing in Saltillo are industry giants such as General Motors, Chrysler, Freightliner, Lennox and Delphi Diesel Systems to name a few. Additionally, there is a General Motors assembly plant and Chrysler’s Saltillo Truck Assembly plant, two engine facilities and a car transmissions plant. Almost forty percent of cars and more than sixty percent of trucks manufactured in Mexico are assembled in Saltillo. Saltillo is also home to Grupo Industrial Saltillo, an important manufacturing conglomerate that makes home appliances, silverware, and auto part. The city is the capital of the Mexican State of Coahuila, which ranks second in the country in international exports.
The metropolitan Saltillo area of 700,000+ inhabitants, and the nearby Monterrey region, is a mecca for industrial manufacturing, and is home to an extensive supplier base and industrial support network that includes: plastic injection molding, metal fabrication, sophisticated welding, laser and plasma cutting, punch press, robotic assembly, CNC machining, heat treating and plating, as well as blow molding.
Saltillo is home to the highest skilled Mexico labor. The area is home to seventeen universities, eleven research centers and twenty-three technical schools
