Horst Engineering Mexico manufacturing testimonial

Back to Aerospace Manufacturing in Mexico

Horst Engineering and Manufacturing Co, a Connecticut based contract manufacturer of precision machined aerospace and medical components and assemblies, has been manufacturing in Mexico since 2006. The company, founded in 1946, employs 40 at its Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico operation.

The facility, which produces close-tolerance, precision machined aerospace and medical components, replaced a smaller facility in Nogales, Mexico. The company, now in its third generation of family ownership and management, has found greater labor stability, more companies in its cluster and less turnover (essential to making quality precision machined components) with the move to Guaymas.

Core processes performed here include Swiss screw machining, turning, milling, center-less grinding, assembly and supply-chain logistics. Core products include fasteners, pins, valve bodies, bushings, pistons, sleeves, housings, and other custom precision machined components.

Horst Engineering is known as a specialist for products under 12 inches, or 300 millimeters in diameter. Horst Engineering parts are found on a wide-range of the world’s aircraft. The company has more than four thousand active part numbers and manufactures products from an array of aerospace materials. Among them: stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, high temperature plastics and high temperatures alloys such as Inconel, A286, Waspaloy, L605, Stellite and MP35N. A sister company, Thread Rolling Inc., provides roll threading, center-less grinding and roll-knurling services.

Employees in Guaymas operate multi-axis Swiss-type screw machines, high-precision CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, and Coordinate Measuring Machines, or CMM’s. They perform actual cuts, make adjustments, and examine precision machined components and parts for accuracy with statistical process control, or SPC.

Horst Engineering, Horst Engineering de Mexico, and Thread Rolling Inc., are AS9100/ISO9001:2008 registered. The companies are known for their leading environmental practices symbolized by the 39KW solar photovoltaic electric power system located on the roof of the main Connecticut plant, and their affiliation with 1% for the Planet.
