“I am Scott Livingston, President and CEO of Horst Engineering, our main plant is in East Hartford Connecticut.
I’m standing here today at our company’s maquiladora in Guaymas Sonora. We’ve been with the Offshore Group and Maquilas Tetakawi for 3 years. Previously we were with a different shelter company in Nogales Sonora.
The Offshore Group has been a valuable partner. They have provided us with a physical plant, personnel and logistics necessary to manufacture products in Mexico.
Horst Engineering is a world contract manufacturer of precision machine components for aerospace and other high technology industries. We wouldn’t be able to manufacture products in Mexico without the support of the Offshore Group. They’ve been helpful ever since we made the decision to move our maquiladora (manufacturing in Mexico operation) here. They helped us set up our facility, recruit our key people including our management team.
We’ve been successful at producing high precision aerospace components in Mexico, and our customers are excited about the fact that we have a lower cost manufacturing solution.
We really like Sonora. When we researched manufacturing in Mexico, I personally visited factories all over the country: Ciudad de Mexico, Monterrey, Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua; looked at other Mexican States and the border. Ultimately we chose Sonora; we liked the culture and its emerging high tech workforce, specifically in the aerospace industry, which is our core market.
We started in Nogales, but after several years, we made a decision, (a difficult one) to move our operation to Guaymas. The Offshore Group was critical in helping us establish our manufacturing operation in Guaymas.
I have been thrilled with the people that we’ve met and have worked for us, very community oriented. In fact, I was discussing with our general manager, Andy Law, how many of the people in Guaymas know each other. They’re all connected in some way and I think that type of connection has helped us build a strong workforce in a relatively stable environment which is critical to our industry.
We also have Offshore Group’s sister company: International Logistic Solution (ILS), to handle our logistics in terms of freight.
They’ve helped us move our equipment and raw materials back and forth across the border and they’ve helped us bring our materials in and get our finished goods back to the U.S. market and elsewhere.”
