Horst Engineering serves three different classes of aerospace manufacturing customers from its facilities in East Hartford, Connecticut and Guaymas, Sonora Mexico. The company manufactures aerospace parts for the military, commerical and regional jet markets.
Over the course of 2011 Horst Engineering was successfully in earning the work for three major parts projects. One in each of the afforementioned market segments:
A-10 Retrofit: Horst Engineering manufactured a dozen components and assemblies for the redesigned A-10 wing project. A-10s, one of the most reliable aircraft in the U.S. military arsenal are also known as “tank killers. The airframe parts machined for the project by Horst Engineering enabled the company to broaden its capabilities. It also required extensive supply chain logistics rationalization for the outsourcing of various critical metal coatings needed to complete the project to specifications.
Boeing 787: The Boeing 787, or “Dreamliner,” is the first “jumbo jet” to be made primarily of composites. As a result of its cutting edge design, engineering and manufacture, the this commercial aerospace project has faced many challenges. Horst Engineering is engaged in the fabrication of early production components and assemblies from lightweight and high strength aerospace materials. To fill the orders for this high profile Boeing project, Horst works with aluminum, stainless steel and nickel-based alloys.
Mitsubishi Regional Jet: The Mitsubishi aircraft is newly designed. It’s two configurations will permit the seating of 70 to 90 passengers. The highly efficient design ensures fuel economy. The jet features new engines, and a host of other innovations. Horst Engineering produced two dozen unique aerospace component parts for the landing gear. Many of the items required high tolerance and are flight safety critical. These challenging parts (nuts, bushings, rings, shafts), range in size from .750 inch diameter to 8.00 inch diameter. The project is serving to broadened Horst Enginering’s machining capabilities. The production of many of the aerospace components equired extensive supply chain coordination for special processes including shot peening, chrome plating, cadmium plating, priming, and painting.
Horst Engineering is a contract manufacturer of precision machined components and assemblies for aerospace, medical, and other high technology industries. It’s core processes include Swiss screw machining, turning, milling, thread rolling, centerless grinding, and assembly. The company’s extensive supply chain offers its customers a full service logistics solution for managing their precision product requirements. Horst Engineering is ISO9001:2008 and AS9100 registered and proud of its 65 year, three-generation legacy of quality and performance. The company has production facilities in East Hartford, Connecticut and in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico in The Offshore Group’s Roca Fuerte Industrial Park.
